Christian Movie Review of the Nutty Professor With Eddie Murphy

A Real Showcase For Eddie Potato

A general nasty tone to this comedy prevented me from rating this a "9" or a "10," but it does have a ton of laughs, courtesy of Eddie Murphy. He'due south at is all-time when he'due south at the dinner table playing everyone but the child. That is one of the funniest scenes I call up from whatever 1990s one-act.

His humor is very crude in hither (another PG-13 rating that is ludicrous) simply very funny in spots, also. With that kind of humor, information technology's easy to become over the line of "good gustatory modality" which he does on occasion. Overall, notwithstanding, White potato is remarkable as all these characters. I believe he plays seven in all. This is probably his biggest 'showcase' ever on motion-picture show, demonstrating his comedic talents.

Even though this has a childlike-romance-blazon feel to it, and a overnice bulletin nearly bias against fat people, in that location are so many raunchy and downright nasty lines - mainly at the comedy club or the dinner tabular array - that it's certainly not recommended for kids. This is a LONG fashion abroad from the original Jerry Lewis movie. However....for adults, this flick provides a lot of laughs.

Commenting on the annotate "fatism" beneath

Warning: Spoilers

As a fat person myself, I meet prejudice every day. Movies are especially bad, because it is still considered okay to brand fun of fatty people. Virtually skinny people simply assume that we're lazy. They call up that we have the potential to exist as thin as is considered "normal," merely nosotros just are too lazy to practise anything about it. That is absolutely false (not that the skinnies would ever buy that, merely I tin at least effort).

Anyway, to get to The Nutty Professor, I plant information technology to exist one of the virtually sympathetic portrayals of fat people ever put on film. The simply one that tops it is James Mangold'south Heavy, although the protagonist's weight wasn't all that was harming his well-beingness.

The Nutty Professor did take some concrete one-act involving fatty that ane could have as funny, but I never felt that the jokes were degrading. The main reason that I feel this was and then sympathetic was that, though he experienced life as a skinny stud, he did decide to be a fatty man at the stop. Ane tin chock this upwardly to formulae, but something that Sherrman Klump said at the end really touched me: "I could try to lose weight, but I'g always going to be a fatty man, and yous're simply going to take to alive with that." I think that a film where the screenwriters who were bigoted would have said something like, "I'll lose weight without this stupid formula." That's not what happened, though, and I'm glad for that.

big laughs

In order to gain the angel of a sexy colleague, and more than importantly feel better most his overall self-deprecating paradigm, shy, grossly overweight genetics professor Murphy takes an experimental serum that transforms him into a charismatic, testosterone-driven hunk. Things go quickly awry however when he starts to lose his own identity and battle his alter ego for complete control. This Jekyll & Hyde formula is familiar merely it'south elevated by fresh, consequent laughs, clever and innovative gags, terrific brand-up/special furnishings and a delightful performance from Potato who's admittedly hysterical as he portrays each member of his family unit. Lots of fun. ***

Irish potato hilarious in all seven of his characters.

*** 1/two

Starring: Eddie Potato (x 7), Jada Pinkett Smith, and Larry Miller.

An obese college professor starts to fall for a pretty teacher. He doesn't recollect that people will like him if he was fat, so he uses a weight-losing potion he created on himself. Information technology works perfectly, and the professor is extremely thin. Now, people care for him differently than when he was fat. But he soon finds out that the "thin" side of him has a heed of its own and is looking to get rid of the "plump" side forever.

Murphy does first-class in all seven roles that are given to him. The scene(southward) that really arrive funny are the dinner ones. I will say that on a low note, Buddy is a fiddling over the tiptop.

I highly recommend it.

The Nutty Professor was nuts! I kinda like information technology. This movie is a guilty pleasure of mine.

Warning: Spoilers

Eddie Murphy does a superb job playing multiple characters in this flick, particularly in the atomic number 82 part of Sherman Klump, a skillful-hearted obese university teacher, who is tired of people making fun of his weight. Hoping to win the amore of a colleague, Dr. Carla Purty (Jada Pinkett), Sherman will test a miraculous, but risky experimental, weight-loss pharmaceutical formula on himself. Notwithstanding, the results of experiment are non what, he wanted, equally a unsafe obnoxious alter ego named 'Buddy Beloved' is trying to destroy Sherman, in one case and for all. Without spoiling the movie, too much, I have to say, as much as I like the original 1963 Jerry Lewis'due south film of the same name, for its odd sense of sense of humor in the way, it parodies writer Robert Louis Stevenson'southward novel, 'Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde'. I but thought, 1996'south 'The Nutty Professor' is a piddling more focus on the keeping the aforementioned type of a humor. In my opinion, the original was a piddling uneven with its jokes. Information technology introduce some short jokes, however, never expand on it. For the most function, the picture sense of humor was all over the identify, ranging from kittenish somewhat dumb slapstick to too avart-garde to understand. Because of that, many of the jokes, fall flat. The remake at least, kept the humor nearly everything in tone, even if the scenes with the professor's extended family weren't actually needed. Because of this, the jokes in the 1996 version were meliorate told. I understood, what the dream sequences, funny music montages, and hilarious outtakes were trying to go for. Not but that, but in a earth of awful comedy remakes, 'The Nutty Professor' besides stands out as a film to lookout when you want a good laugh even if some of the jokes were somewhat offensive, gross and rough. For the most function, the fat jokes and toilet humor kinda do hit the funny bone for me. I'm non the best of shapes, myself, however, I'grand willing to take a few jabs about my waistline, as long as the motion picture has a skillful message. This movie does. At that place is some heart to this film. I truly understand, why the likable professor wants to transform. I tin can't say, the same with Jerry Lewis's clumsy character in the original. All, I got from that movie is the fact that the somewhat abrasive Professor wanted to boned his much younger, student; which is creepy. His drive for the change, really lacks depth. Another affair that bugs me, is how generic and wearisome, Jerry's nerd character is, as he used it, in a like function in 1958's film 'Rock-A-Farewell Baby'. Fifty-fifty his Buddy Love character doesn't seem new, every bit information technology conspicuously parodying his once-upon Rat Pack buddy, vocalist, Dean Martin. Plus, for a sci-fi formula plot that supposed to beef up the master character. Jerry Lewis's body doesn't really look whatsoever differ, as Buddy Dear. Don't get me wrong, this remake also has its problems with the transforming similar how does Sherman's trunk fatty vanishes, still his peel somehow shrinking to fit in, with his new body type, merely at least, his Buddy Love seems like a new guy and the antagonist. This movie really explore the conflict within human vs self. It was something that was missing from the beginning movie. Because of that, Sherman's speech toward the stop, honestly does mean something, while the Lewis version kinda doesn't, equally moments later, the film contradict those statements, when his girlfriend sneaks a few bottles, before their honeymoon. Considering of that, the speech in the showtime picture show toward the end doesn't seem and so meaningful. This 1996 remake deserves more credit than it been getting. Some people had been dumping on it, for years. Fifty-fifty original producer like Jerry Lewis, abandoned it by 2009. Regardless, of what Lewis and other critics, thought. In my opinion, it'due south as good as the original, because of the amazing brand-upwards magic and special visual furnishings at the fourth dimension. The supporting cast in the new moving picture is also a lot improve. I establish Dave Chappelle's brief cameo as the bully comedian, Reggie Warrington and Larry Miller's character of Dean Richmond, to be just every bit funny, even if it's a chip mean-spirited. However, Jada Pinkett is a bit weak in the function. She really doesn't stand out at all. Regardless of that, the good hearted emotional music by composer, David Newman makes up for the lack of chemistry betwixt White potato and Pinkett. No really, give a listen to runway ii of Newman'due south original instrumental score. You volition make you experience something. Overall: While, this movie is a bit raucous and crude, it did create some laughs, heart and poignancy than whatever Eddie Murphy picture has in quite in a long time. It was a Herculean task, but somehow, managing director, Tony Shadyac and his crew, succeed at it.

Sheer comedic brilliance

"The Nutty Professor" is easily deserving of being mentioned with the funniest movies of all fourth dimension. This movie was nix short of comedic genius. Eddie Murphy cemented himself every bit a comedy legend with his performance(south) in "The Nutty Professor". I would go so far equally to say that I've never seen ii scenes funnier than the two Klump family dinner scenes. For Eddie Murphy to have pulled that off so seamlessly only showed his range and his talent. The two dinner scenes were gut busting hi-la-ri-ous, and what fabricated them and so good is that you don't fifty-fifty realize that Eddie Murphy is playing all of those roles. The second dinner scene was particularly hilarious because of Professor Klump; although he never says a word. He was and so humiliated by his family unit's actions that he had the most mortified look on his face, and a couple of times you could even see him attempt to cutting his wrist with a butter knife. Priceless!!!

Silly, Sad, and Poignant Film at times!

Eddie Potato transforms himself with the assist of the Oscar winning make-up team into an array of characters known as the Klump family unit, Buddy Love, and Dr. Sherman Klump, an overweight lone professor. He becomes Buddy Dear when Sherman develops a formula to thin him down but the formula does not last as long every bit he would similar it too. It's not permanent. He becomes a full-fledged Buddy Love, the man who is sparse and goes after the ladies unlike never before. The scenes with Dave Chappelle as the comedian who pokes fun and cruelty at the overweight Sherman is quite sad. White potato delivers in his role and many roles on screen. As Dr. Sherman Klump, yous like him the best considering he is the kindest and sweeter than Buddy Dear who only thinks about himself. Equally the Klump family unit, Murphy proves that there is nothing he tin can't or won't do to get a express joy at the audience. Merely plenty with the fart jokes around the dining room table, the film also includes James Coburn and Jada Pinket Smith equally the woman of Sherman's desire who goes after Buddy only she does not realize he's the same person. Information technology isn't the acting but the brand-up that shows how Sherman to Buddy transformation tin can be.

How is this Rated 5.6?

Generally speaking, there are a LOT of weak, to awful, Remakes. But this one is definitely the exception. Funny, touching, clever, bombastic, and White potato is brilliant in his numerous roles (including his two portrayals of the Professor). So I was surprised when I saw the film comes in at v.six. Huh? I thought I would check out the 106 reviews and the vast majority heap the same praise that I believe The Nutty Professor deserves! There must exist a lot of low voters who decided non to express their reasons. This moving picture is Non hateful-spirited to overweight people; and in fact Sherman Klump is presented in a very kind, sympathetic manner. I actually was so impressed that Irish potato could convey that so authentically. If you take non seen this, Highly Recommended for a fun date-night or when in the mood for some amusing madness.

A comedy that tin can exist watched over and again! :)

Since twenty-four hours ane, Eddie Murphy has been a favorite of mine - he's a great comedian (probably the greatest ever); has a great presence; neat talent; a lot of charisma; is great with the ladies; a great author and storyteller; a swell entertainer all-around; etc., etc., etc!

This picture, similar 'all' of his others, is Neat! In fact, I've never seen an Eddie Murphy flick that I didn't like. Sure, this motion picture pokes fun at people who're fat; naive; elderly; uncouth; etc...just, and then does everyone else in real-life!?!? Even so, it also pokes fun at self and arrogant people (Klump's boss; Reggie the comedian; etc.), so...if you lot can accept and laugh at i grouping, have and laugh at them all!

Despite all of this, Eddie Murphy has gone way higher up-and-beyond with his portrayal of multiple characters - is there annihilation that this guy can't do!?!? To me, a talented role player makes what they're doing believable. An 'extremely' talented player does this, but, also adds touches such as unlike voices, accents, personae, and, and then forth. Eddie Spud does all of that here!

Anyone who downwards-grades a movie, a vocal, a painting, etc. because they feel that it makes fun of them - 'improve yourself.' I way of improving yourself is to get comfy with the manner y'all are, and, learn to laugh at yourself. If you can't express mirth at yourself, you have no right laughing at all...mostly, considering yous're the same kind of hypocrite who laughs at others in secrecy!

I notice this movie to be a bang-up work past an extremely talented and funny comedian, and, I really like information technology! :)

What the...? 5.vi?

The Nutty Professor isn't 100% perfect starting off a picayune too slow, and perhaps not as enjoyably daft as its predecessor. But is information technology really that bad to warrant such a beggarly rating? No, information technology isn't. I endeavor non to have IMDb ratings to center, simply the Nutty Professor is actually a good film that manages to be funny and touching. Tom Shadyac directs snappily and there is a very nicely written script, non something that is admittedly exceptional merely impressive in what information technology sets out to do. The film even looks cute, with some nice cinematography and lovely scenery. And the performances? Well, I can proceed all nighttime about how brilliant Eddie Murphy was. He was not only funny, he brought some poignancy to his seven roles and did it to perfection. Jada Pinkett Smith is a suitably attractive romantic interest/instruction assistant also. And of course the brand upwards and reckoner graphics are fantastic. Overall, well played and really enjoyable, information technology doesn't deserve the depression rating. 8/10 Bethany Cox

My 90's favorite moving picture

The Nutty Professor is along with Bowfinger, ane of Eddie Murphy'southward concluding funny comedies. The idea is good, and I enjoyed the comedic elements of the film. Of all the films that Eddie Murphy has starred in, The Nutty Professor is one of his funniest. Sure the flick isn't perfect, merely at that place are enough of good laughs here to entertain the audience. I'm non the biggest Eddie Murphy fan, but I enjoyed this film, and I thought it had some great moments where the pic was very well done. The Nutty Professor is a expert comedy, and somewhat underrated. However, if you enjoy Eddie Murphy, requite this ane a shot, The Nutty Professor is one of his last funny roles, and he really does bring on good laughs with his antics in this film. The Nutty Professor has a good cast starring opposite Murphy, and the pic boasts another comedic talent, Dave Chappelle. And the interim of Jada Pinkett Smith equally Carla was great! The film works well enough to be an entertaining hour and a half and despite the fact that it's not a comedic masterpiece, the picture still has plenty of laughs going for information technology, and is much improve than the second. This is i of Eddie Tater's last good picture show roles along with Bowfinger afterwards he really started to make unfunny films that just insulted the intelligence and were a waste matter of fourth dimension. Luckily looking back at this movie, you realize that Eddie Murphy was once very funny and capable at delivering something unique on-screen. Now, he'south totally irrelevant and unfunny. The Nutty Professor may not be the best one-act, just it definitely is worth watching and is pretty funny for what it is.

Excellent, hilarious, and somewhat touching movie about being happy with yourself

THE NUTTY PROFESSOR, in my stance, is an excellent, hilarious, and somewhat touching movie about being happy with yourself. If you ask me, Klump (Eddie Murphy) was a very brilliant scientist despite the fact that he sometimes let his change ago become the best of him. All the same, when anyone teased him about his weight, I wanted to cry. This was especially true when he went out to dinner with Carla (Jada Pinkett). The reason for this is because Reggie (Dave Chappelle) and everybody in the society fabricated fun of him. Notwithstanding, when Buddy (Eddie Tater) took Carla to dinner, I felt actually good. This was considering of the fatty jokes he and Reggie were throwing dorsum and forth at each other. Earlier I wrap this upwardly, I'd like to say that everything almost this picture show was spectacular, especially the performances. At present, in conclusion, I highly recommend this excellent, hilarious, and somewhat touching film near beingness happy with yourself to whatever Eddie Murphy fan who hasn't seen it.

This low?!

I'k pretty shocked to run across that this movie has a rating of but 5.6. I admit it's not 1 of the best comedies ever made, but this movie really does accept a lot of significance. Eddie Murphy has been in then many recent bad comedies it's nifty to see him in ane of his funniest roles always. I saw the erstwhile version with Jerry Lewis beginning and I judge I should probably compare the two. While both are good films, I think the new one is actually probably meliorate. It seems to be more cartoonish than the original and probably has more laughs.

1996 to 2001 wasn't a good fourth dimension for movies, especially comedies simply this one stands out pretty well. I mean, I really do like the principal character and the fix upwardly is really nice. I like how information technology all leads upwards to a very entertaining climax as Sherman literally fights with himself or rather, his alter ego. This movie has been quoted by my brother so many times I really have no selection to similar it. He's never stopped saying, "Hercules! Hercules!". Well, he just only says, "Herc". As a pretty significant motion picture for the times, I recommend it. ***

The Eddie Murphy Show

'The Nutty Professor' is a fun, warm-hearted moving picture with a leading actor at the very top of his game. This is Eddie White potato at his absolute funniest. Quite how he managed to pull off SEVEN different characters in a single film and smash every i of them I will never know.

For some reason, this innocent, fun motion-picture show seems to accept made a lot of people quite grumpy. 'One of the worst e'er', 'fatism' and 'offensive', according to other reviews. Actually, it is quite the opposite. The bulletin of the film is near accepting who you are. Professor Klump wants to be somebody he is not, until he realises that people actually love him every bit he is.

I would consider 'The Nutty Professor' one of the best comedies of the 90s and an accented masterclass from Eddie Murphy.

A peachy comedy, but not a great movie.

Let me become this straight right now: The Nutty Professor is Not one of the best movies ever fabricated! That is not why this gets a 10. This is a comedy, then information technology's supposed to make you lot laugh. And that succeeds very well.

This movie stars Eddie Irish potato in 7 roles: Sherman Klump, Buddy Love, Sherman'southward Dad, Brother Ernie, and most hilariously-Sherman's mother and grandmother. He is too a white man that parodies Richard Simmons! However, Sherman is the principal character, and in this movie, he is hundreds of pounds in weight. Why? Because all he does is eat!

He then falls in love with a beautiful woman(her proper noun, in fact, is Miss. Purdy) and when he's had enough of people's teasing(a comedian at his appointment becomes the straw that breaks the camel'due south back), he makes a potion that he tin can potable and he sheds countless pounds. However, his alter ego is also very obnoxious, and that causes some issues.

I first saw this picture show when I was about x or 11. My Mom let me see it, and nosotros watched it together. She had seen it before, but she forgot at how vulgar information technology was.

So nosotros heard all these curse words(generally the A word, among other bad words), and in that location were a ton of fart jokes and sex-related sense of humor we did not like.

An example is a scene with numerous Yo Mama jokes-one being: "your mother'south so fatty, subsequently sex I roll over twice, and I'm still on the b*tch!"

We got halfway through it, and I actually offered to take out the VHS tape. (Yep, welcome to MY era!)

Nevertheless, I have grown to dearest it, and I have seen information technology well over a dozen times now!Information technology, forth with information technology'south sequel, are keen fun and hilarious every bit well!

If you lot are in the mood for mindless fun and something to non take and then seriously, this is a movie that will fit the bill. It's not 1 of the all-time movies ever, but information technology's a thoroughly entertaining comedy!

Eddie Murphy shines in his Many Roles,

The Nutty Professor is a neat picture with a well developed storyline and a terrific comedic cast. It'south a very funny and enjoyable movie, mostly due to the comedic genius of Eddie Murphy, this film easily could have been a disaster without a good comedic lead to hold it together, and thankfully White potato did with over seven roles, and he shines in every unmarried 1, it is pure movie magic to believe that he plays the bulk of the primary characters in this, and it also won itself a deserving Best Makeup Academy Award. For the nearly function I enjoy the humour in the movie, although there are certainly also many fart jokes to the caste that information technology gets a bit irritating and the scene betwixt White potato and Dave Chappelle was unnecessary, I also felt like Jason was a very underdeveloped character, I enjoyed John Ales portrayal of him simply we never get to know very much almost him, I would have liked to have gotten a clearer indication on the friendship between him and Klump. A redeeming attribute of this movie that y'all wouldn't normally see in these types of comedies is that there is a lot of heart, the dear story between Klump and Carla is very sweet and this is the engine that really gets the moving-picture show running, having something like this adds an extra layer to the character and makes him more relatable for the audience. Funny and well acted, I would recommend the Nutty Professor to anyone looking for a good one-act.

An overweight professor takes a special chemic in order to expect good for a woman he has fallen for, but it has some disastrous side effects.

All-time Performance: Eddie White potato Worst Performance: Dave Chappelle

Irish potato and Baker Really Bring information technology Home

The Nutty Professor (1996)

*** 1/2 (out of iv)

Hilarious remake of the Jerry Lewis motion-picture show about the overweight Sherman Klump (Eddie Spud) who comes up with a chemical that will plow anyone skinny overnight. Klump rushes the experiment on himself subsequently an embarrassing nighttime out and becomes the skinny simply annoying Buddy Honey (White potato). At commencement Buddy thinks this is what he wants but the side effects chop-chop follow. I don't care what anyone says but Eddie Murphy should have won the Oscar for this moving picture and yes I've seen all the nominations from that year. Information technology's rather amazing to see what Irish potato was able to practise here, playing at least seven characters and making of them one of the most memorable you're ever going to run into. I don't care who you are simply when you meet Sherman Klump yous tin can't assistance but fall in dear with the character and the way Murphy plays him is just something astonishing to watch. Fifty-fifty the Buddy Honey character is quite memorable and this doesn't even cover the Klump family unit that Spud perfectly handles. Rick Baker also deserves a lot of credit for the special effects and these here have to be considered some of the greatest of his career. The pic actually does walk the line between hilarious comedy and some rather sorry and dramatic moments. There'southward no question that the flick actually packs a punch no matter what it'south trying to do. The story itself certainly comes with a message that'southward not preachy and I think Tater actually delivers it in a touching way. The one flaw with the moving picture is that it breaks out of a realistic nature at times and especially with way too many fart jokes. Still, there's no question that this here is Irish potato at his greatest and the Sherman character is merely so slap-up that you can't help but be won over by the film.

A Man of Substance

The theme of each of us harboring a darker side, just aching to leave and cause mischief, is an old ane, but it truly flowered as literature in the age of Freud. Never earlier had our animal impulses been so -- well, repressed. The legs of easy chairs and sofas were dressed with tiny floor-length skirts. "Legs" were impolite, replaced by "limbs." A "bull" was "a gentleman cow." Virgins could exist easily seduced because they didn't know the mechanics of what was going on. Craven parts became "white meat" and "dark meat" instead of yous-know-whats. Stevenson's Jeykll and Hyde were a perfect expression of this duality, the dissimilarity between what we were and what we pretended to be. The theme has been enduringly popular because, to some extent, it's withal an appropriate way to interpret civilization. And it's too a flexible theme, i that tin be changed to suit the times. If Stevenson'south story was about sex (equally was Wilde'south "Portrait of Dorian Gray") then Jerry Lewis's 1963 motion picture, of which this is a remake, was about subservient conformity. This one is about physical fitness and narcissism.

Never in my life would I have dreamed that someone could remake a Jerry Lewis movie that made Lewis'south humor seem subtly elegant, but Murphy has managed to do it. Eddie Potato's flick is often extremely funny but nearly equally understated as a train wreck. I think the word to describe the hilarious dinner scenes that depend on open flatulence is "raunch." I don't know why we find it funny when someone farts. There are cultures, like the Samoans, in which information technology is taken for granted as an ordinary biological act and receives no more attention than a sneeze does in our culture. Murphy's entire movie is most at that level of raunchiness, outdoing Lina Wertmuller's "Seven Beauties," which has a corpse farting, outdoing Chaucer -- outdoing everybody.

Murphy has a fantasy in which he is taken to the ER, filled up with gas, and the staff are unable to stop his body from balooning. He swells to a monstrous size, enveloping one of the doctors the style an amoeba absorbs a food particle, smashes upwardly through the edifice, strides gigantically through the urban center streets while people scream and run, reaches a manus through the upper-floor window of a hotel towards Jada Pinkett the way King Kong did with Fay Wray, reaches Past Pinkett, and two huge sausage-similar fingers delicately pluck the leg from a roast chicken adjacent to Pinkett's bed. Simply that's not enough gigantism. Murphy gives this blimplike effigy a spasm of intestinal gas which is released through the streets at hurricane strength. A bum tries to strike a friction match and light a cigarette. The city is vaporized past an explosion the size of a nuclear flop'due south. Okay, that's all. I call up I'll quit while I'm ahead, something Potato chose non to exercise.

Sherman Klump, the fatty man and the central effigy, is a likable character. One of the reasons for this is that he is one of the few actors who isn't constantly screaming with rage or laughter. He speaks quietly and it's a relief, what with all the bedlam around him. But it's more than that. Murphy actually brings pathos to the role, and without Disneyesque condescension. What I mean is, Murphy ACTS for a change instead of existence Tater. (He doesn't bring much to the change ego, Buddy Love, except even more Murphy than we're used to.) There is a scene in which Sherman Klump brings his date -- his first date -- to a nightclub and the comic begins insulting Klump because of his weight. Klump goes along with it genially at first merely every bit the comic continues, relentlessly, humiliatingly, Klump's accomodating grin fades and is replaced with an almost infinitely deplorable resignation. (He'south been here before.) He does well by the graphic symbol in other scenes too.

The subtext is disturbing. I don't know if Murphy realized exactly what he was getting hold of. Smokers having become pariahs, soundly trounced, insulted, and penalized for their weakness, we've been seeking other targets and the searchlight has fallen on the obese, the out of shape. "I tin can't help it," said the Chairman of a sociology section, "but when I encounter somebody who is overweight I merely think of him equally weak." (That'south a sociologist talking.) Insurance payments are college for the overweight. Some airlines at present charge double the usual fare because fat people make their seatmates uncomfortable. I've seen bumper stickers in California: "No Fatty Chicks," and a ruddy circle with a diagonal stripe drawn through the silhouette of an overweight adult female. I won't get into the many studies that accept emerged from social psychology in the last decade or so, showing the social handicaps suffered past the overweight. I doubt that Tater intended this movie to be and then, simply information technology is a stinging critique of our pitiless club as well as a very funny film.

Klump sweetness character

Sherman Klump (Eddie Irish potato) is an overweight professor at Wellman College. He'southward working on a weight lost formula that actually restructures DNA. Dean Richmond (Larry Miller) is not a fan of Klump who has lost him lots of donors. They need to get the last rich alumni Harlan Hartley (James Coburn). New teacher Carla Purty (Jada Pinkett Smith) is a Klump fan. When she accepts a date with him, he tries to lose weight. Subsequently getting embarrassed on the date, he decides to accept his ain formula which turns him into the smooth operator Buddy Love.

This is non for anybody who gets offended by fat jokes. In that location is plenty of that plus loads of fart jokes. Information technology's saved past a very appealing character in Sherman Klump. He's a overnice guy. The romance is sweet with Jada playing a sweet girl. It's actually very sorry when the comic picks on him. I similar the guy but the fat jokes aren't funny to me. This is a nice take on Jekyll & Hyde.

I of Eddie Murphy's best

Eddie Potato proves that he tin ever requite multiple roles to films and TV show here with this remake of the 1963 script. Departure, this time it is with a blackness bandage and instead of being a loser and ugly, Dr. Sherman Klump is a guy who wants to exist thin and liked. He does this, and becomes Buddy Dear. Filled with hilarity, but also some eye (and a message) with the point that it doesn't affair how much yous weigh. What matters is if you believe in yourself. One of Eddie's all-time and of the year 1996. A+

A fine, funny, touching pic???

Yes, that's how I feel nigh information technology. And no one was more surprised than me.

While I think Eddie Potato is often hilarious, I don't care so much for his scatological humor. It brand me think he wasn't toilet-trained properly.

We get a off-white corporeality of fart jokes in this flick, but they work because they fit in the context of the scenes, and the characters' motivations. They make sense get-go, And so are funny, rather than the other way effectually (or just being featherbrained considering no one could think of anything funny to write).

But overriding the gas glee is a thoughtful story about a fat human dealing with his weight and trying to notice romance. The special effects that gave Murphy his blubber are truly astounding. It never looks faux. And above all this is the incredible screen chemistry between Murphy's Professor Klump and Jada Pinkett Smith. Smith is ever 18-carat in her involvement in Sherman; and his bashfulness and sincerity are truly endearing.

I found this movie to be a pleasant surprise. I think you might, too.

The nutty doc again

Eddie Irish potato plays an overweight professor Sherman Klump and six other characters in this hilarious one-act.The doc falls in honey with his student Carla Purty (Jada Pinkett) and he creates a potion. The potion makes him thinner, more handsome and more than annoying Buddy Love. The Nutty Professor is a remake for the 1960's striking comedy with Jerry Lewis. There are some differences in these two movies. In the get-go version Lewis played a nerd doc and in the remake Tater plays a fat physician. Both movies are great.Murphy does a keen job playing seven characters in the movie. The Nutty Professor only makes you express joy.

A very mannerly moving picture

In a functioning reminiscent of Peter Sellers in `Dr. Strangeglove,' Eddie Murphy turns in a bout de farce in `The Nutty Professor.' This was a film I had intended to see for a decade and I was certainly not disappointed when I finally rented it.

Murphy provides a charming operation as shy, gentlemanly fatty human being, Prof. Sherman Klump. One cannot help rooting for the 400-pound professor to woo foxy grad student Carla Purty (Jada Pinkett Smith), rather than egomaniacal alter ego Buddy Honey. Larry Miller is as well fun equally the smiling but malevolent Dean Richmond – a type office he has played several times before.

Of class the special effects wowed audiences in 1991 and they are still quite impressive. I haven't seen the 1963 Jerry Lewis version – and pray I never take to, simply I doubt that information technology had the charm of this production. Pinkett Smith adds non simply beauty, but a warm grace and dignity to an otherwise chaotic scene of runaway gerbils, wild dark spots and bizarre potions. David Chappelle, meanwhile, is entertaining as obnoxious stand-upwards comic Reggie Warrington. And, of form, there are the Klumps. Murphy outdoes himself as Sherman's dysfunctional, farting family. While I have no existent want to come across the 2000 sequel, which patently focuses on the Klump family unit, they do add some fun to the film.

Overall, I would telephone call `The Nutty Professor' a solid comedy with plenty of laughs, lots of charm, and even a bit of a message.

How do ya like that?

After several years of worthless movies (namely "Boomerang" and "Vampire in Brooklyn"), Eddie Murphy made his improvement with "The Nutty Professor", a remake of the Jerry Lewis classic. He plays overweight Prof. Sherman Klump, who invents a potion that turns him into the cool simply mean Buddy Love.

Overall, it seems that the picture show is a big excuse to exist crazy. And that's just what they exercise. Looking dorsum on information technology, they probably could accept washed without all the flatulence, but that dream sequence was still a hoot. My favorite scene was either the parts with Dave Chappelle, or the whole end sequence.

Obviously, they changed a number of things from the original version. Actually, I must take been only eight when I saw the original version, so I'll have to see information technology again. Just either way, this is a comedy classic. And it just goes to show that Eddie Irish potato does best when he goes for straightforward clever comedy and doesn't degenerate into things like "The Adventures of Pluto Nash" or "Daddy Twenty-four hours Care". A modern classic. As well starring Jada Pinkett (before she added "Smith" to her proper name), James Coburn and Larry Miller.

The Murphy Comeback Is On

Contin y'all know my programme to watch every Eddie Murphy movie in order, I come to Nutty Professor (1996)

Plot In A Paragraph: In a depressed land, kind but overweight professor Sherman Klump (Potato) takes a special chemical that turns him into the slim but obnoxious Buddy Dear.

I remember Reading about this beingness fabricated and thinking at that place was no way this remake with Murphy could be a striking, certainly not one with him wearing a fat accommodate. I promptly dismissed information technology, as what would be another Spud flop. After years in a career slump, I was non alone. Murphy said "I had a bunch of movies that didn't piece of work. People were proverb, "Eddie's no expert," so I was like, "Not skillful? Permit me show y'all what I tin can f***ing exercise. It seems every five or six years, you lot have to exercise something to remind them that they similar y'all."

Murphy, is energised for the starting time fourth dimension in years. Using this passion, he is seriously dorsum on runway with a lot of energy, missing in and so much of his piece of work the last couple of years. The movie is a remake of the Jerry Lewis motion picture, but I'd say it'due south more inspired by, than an actual remake of the 1963 classic. This version follows the broad outlines of the Lewis picture, with one inspired add-on, it makes him fatty!! Opening the door for a lot more than physical comedy.

This is Murphy'due south all-time performance and moving-picture show since Beverly Hills Cop. Every adult member of the Klump family unit is played by Murphy. He has always been practiced at this type of matter, and hither it really works (even if fart humor is non your thing) Sherman is 1 of his about likable characters, skilful-hearted, sympathetic and funny. When Sherman turns into Buddy Love, the character resembles Potato's ain on stage human action. There is a lot of Buddy Beloved in the Eddie Murphy screen persona. Mayhap as well much. And not enough Sherman Klump. The Nutty Professor shows him back on rail.

Murphy was nominated a Golden Globe for the 4th time. His first since Beverly Hills Cop (xiv years before) More than importantly, it was a striking at the box function. The Nutty Professor grossed $128 Million at the domestic box office to end 1996 as the 8th highest grossing movie of the year. The first fourth dimension Murphy had a $100 1000000 grosser and a pic in the top 10 highest grossers of the year in viii years. The comeback was on.
